Masoor dal is an integral part of a vegetarian diet, it is basically the split lentil without the skin exposing it’s orange color.Masoor contains 26% protein, and have the 3rd highest protein content by weight amoun the plant-based proteins ( after soy bean and hemp)
When we were growing up the name for these ‘red’ lentils was ‘ Quick Dhal’ , it was the Dhal you’d cook when time was a factor! My kids think these are magic beans – from red lentils they change color to yellow Dhal 🤣
And they still live up to their name … these patties are easy , quick and delicious!

- 1 cup red lentil ( soaked for at least 30 – 35 mins)
- 1 inch of ginger (roughly chopped)

- Pan fry until crispy on both sides – they didn’t use up much oil and cooked evenly
- OR Bake in oven for around 25min at 160 (oil oven tray and drizzle on top of patty)
Now you ready for a great Burger! Serve with your favorite sides / toppings .
I served with a minty mayo , sun-dried tomatoe pesto , mushed avo and salad stuff ( onion Cucumber etc )
Minty mayo – I had green chutney in the freezer so mixed with mayo ( you can add a small fist of dhania , mint to mayo and blitz together )
Sun-dried tomato pesto was an experiment, if you keen I can write up a recipe – used pepperdews and spices .
