What to Expect…

My Spice Dabba…the saying is true “Spice is Life” or even ” Spice up your Life”

Instagram and Facebook are more snap shots or highlights of the end result, on the blog I aim to take you more on a journey to learn and appreciate the background to the recipes and the amazing produce we have.

I come from an Indian Heritage and I am South African – both cultures rich and colorful. You will find a sprinkle of garam masala and teaspoon jeera (cumin) mentioned often…my aim is to showcase these ” everyday ” spices and transform your dishes. I will start on a very basic level for you to understand the flavor profile and we will work all the way to you grinding your own spices blends…all in time!

I am a Mum and Wife and I see food as a source of nourishment for my family , done correctly the kids have a good balance in their diet.We try to keep our meals wholesome , nutritious and delicious .

I take pride in mixing things up and not to get too boring , so you will see lots of old school Indian veggies and curries , all the legumes and pulses both dry and fresh , Fusion to intercontinental.

I grew up in a family that has been Vegetarians in forever…so embracing different food styles and cultures was part of the adventure. This to me has made being vegetarian normal … a part of my life.

We all have to eat vegetables …so my thinking is it doesn’t need to be dull or boring !

Disclaimer – I am not a Chef or trained cook , I cook from my heart and gut feel or because its in front of me 🙂 My recipes very rarely will say 2 ml salt or 120 ml water you will have to get with the lingo of glugs and dollops , sprinkles and dashes. I’m getting better at measuring and using documenting the behind the scenes.

If you looking for a well curated , stylised food setting…you not going to find that here …what you will find is me , cooking for my family and friends when we entertain. The real deal messy life and kitchen.

So , now you know….Welcome to Team VSG Kitchen . Both Sunil and I are Foodies so our kitchen is always cooking … Lucky you!
